6-Day Victoria Falls & South Luangwa Safari: Zambia's Two Greatest Destinations in One Journey
Most visitors to Zambia dream of seeing Victoria Falls and going on a proper bush safari. Fortunately, this 6-day itinerary makes both happen — without compromise.
Your adventure begins in Livingstone, where you track endangered white rhinos on foot, stand in the spray of one of the seven natural wonders of the world, and watch elephants drink from the Zambezi at sunset. From there, you fly to Mfuwe and step into South Luangwa National Park, widely known as the Valley of the Leopard. Once you arrive, expert guides lead you on game drives, a walking safari, and evening drives through some of Africa's richest predator habitat.
Essentially, this safari bridges the gap between a Victoria Falls adventure and an immersive wildlife experience. Proflight Zambia connects Livingstone to Mfuwe via Lusaka in one smooth travel day, which means you spend your time exploring rather than driving.
Zamsato designed this combination specifically for travellers who want depth at both destinations. In other words, you are not rushing through a checklist — you are giving each place the time it truly deserves.
Why This 6-Day Combination Safari Works
This itinerary succeeds because it pairs two contrasting experiences that, together, create the complete Zambian safari.
On one hand, Victoria Falls delivers spectacle, culture, and conservation. You witness raw natural power at the falls, walk alongside rhinos in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, explore Livingstone's history, and close each evening on the Zambezi River.
On the other hand, South Luangwa delivers depth, silence, and predator encounters. Each full day follows a satisfying rhythm: a morning activity — either a game drive or a walking safari — heads out at first light around six o'clock before returning to camp by mid-morning. Then, as the afternoon heat fades, you set out again at four for a second drive along the Luangwa River, pausing for a sundowner as the sky shifts colour. As darkness falls, the drive continues into the evening, when leopards begin to stalk, hyenas emerge from their dens, and genets dart through the spotlight — all before the park gate closes at eight.
Taken together, these two destinations reveal Zambia's full range — from thundering water to still, predator-rich bush.
Who Is This Safari For?
First and foremost, this combination is ideal for first-time visitors to Zambia who want the country's two headline experiences in a single trip. In particular, it suits couples, small groups, wildlife photographers, and anyone with six days who refuses to choose between Victoria Falls and the bush.
Moreover, it also works perfectly as a building block. Guests frequently extend their stay into the Lower Zambezi, Kafue National Park, or even Malawi's Lake Malawi after completing this itinerary.

Itineraries
Day 1
Welcome to Livingstone + Zambezi Sunset Cruise
Your journey begins at Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport in Livingstone. A Zamsato representative meets you on arrival and transfers you to Kalahari Sand Ridge Inn, your comfortable base for the Victoria Falls leg of the safari.
After settling in, you head to the river for a Victoria Falls River Safari sunset cruise. This is one of the best introductions to Zambia's wildlife and scenery. Watch elephants drinking from the riverbanks, photograph hippos surfacing in golden light, and spot crocodiles warming themselves on sandbars. As the sun sets over the Zambezi, you enjoy refreshing drinks and realise your safari has already begun.
Meals included: Dinner
Accommodation: Kalahari Sand Ridge Inn, Livingstone
Day 2
Rhino Tracking + Victoria Falls Tour
Today packs two unforgettable experiences into a single day.
Morning — Rhino Tracking in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park
You set out at sunrise with a professional wildlife scout and armed DNPW ranger for a guided rhino tracking expedition on foot. Walking through the bush, you learn to read tracks, interpret animal behaviour, and approach these critically endangered animals safely. Standing a few metres from a wild white rhino — knowing how much effort protects them — is one of Africa's most powerful wildlife moments.
Afternoon — Guided Tour of Victoria Falls
After returning to the lodge for a break, your guide takes you on a complete guided tour of Victoria Falls. You explore the full network of viewpoints, rainforest walkways, and dramatic lookouts on the Zambian side. Your guide explains the geological forces that carved the gorge, the cultural significance of Mosi-oa-Tunya ("The Smoke That Thunders"), and the best angles for photography.
Optional: Helicopter flight over Victoria Falls (Flight of the Angels) — available at additional cost.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch
Accommodation: Kalahari Sand Ridge Inn, Livingstone
Day 3
Fly to South Luangwa + Afternoon Game Drive
This is your travel day — and it is designed to be smooth and exciting, not exhausting.
Morning
After breakfast, your guide transfers you to Livingstone Airport for your Proflight Zambia flight to Mfuwe via Lusaka. The flight takes approximately three hours including the Lusaka connection, and you arrive in Mfuwe by early afternoon.
A Zamsato guide meets you at Mfuwe Airport and drives you to your lodge. The transfer to camp follows the park boundary road, and wildlife sightings often begin before you even enter the gate. Elephants regularly cross the road near Mfuwe, and baboons forage in the woodland on either side.
Afternoon — First Game Drive
After a light lunch and a short rest, you head out on your first afternoon game drive into South Luangwa National Park. The Luangwa River and its surrounding floodplains attract large concentrations of wildlife, and the light in late afternoon is exceptional for photography. Expect impala, puku, elephants, hippos, and — if fortune favours you — your first leopard sighting.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Flatdogs Camp (or similar), South Luangwa
Day 4
Full Day in South Luangwa — Game Drives + Evening Drive
Today is dedicated entirely to game drives, giving you maximum time in the park.
Early Morning Game Drive
You depart before sunrise to catch the park at its most active. Predators are often still moving, and the cool morning light is ideal for photography. Your guide uses their intimate knowledge of the area to track specific animals and revisit promising locations from previous days.
Mid-Morning
Return to camp for brunch and rest.
Late Afternoon + Evening Drive
A second afternoon-to-night session takes you into different areas of the park. South Luangwa's landscape shifts dramatically between riverine forest, open floodplain, and dense mopane woodland — each habitat supporting different species. By spending multiple days in the park, you begin to recognise patterns in animal behaviour that short visits simply cannot reveal.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Flatdogs Camp (or similar), South Luangwa
Day 5
Full Day in South Luangwa — Walking Safari + Farewell Evening Drive
Your final full day in the Valley of the Leopard.
Early Morning — Walking Safari
A second walking safari takes you through a different area. With two days of context already built, this walk feels more immersive. You read the bush with sharper eyes. Your guide builds on what you have already learned, pointing out details that make this landscape one of Africa's most complex and rewarding ecosystems.
Mid-Morning
Return to camp for brunch and relaxation.
Late Afternoon + Evening Drive
Your farewell game drive gives you one final chance to encounter the wildlife that makes South Luangwa unforgettable. Many guests report that their best sightings happen on the last drive, when patience and familiarity with the bush come together.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Flatdogs Camp (or similar), South Luangwa
Day 6
Departure from Mfuwe
After a leisurely breakfast, you enjoy a final morning at the lodge before your transfer to Mfuwe Airport. From here, you connect via Lusaka to your onward destination.

This combination safari is ideal for first-time visitors to Zambia, couples celebrating special occasions, solo travellers seeking a safe and guided itinerary, families with teenagers, wildlife photographers, and anyone who wants Zambia's two most iconic destinations in a single trip. It also works as a core itinerary that you can extend with additional destinations.
Proflight Zambia operates scheduled flights from Livingstone to Mfuwe via Lusaka. The total travel time is approximately three hours including the Lusaka connection. The domestic flight is included in your safari price. You do not need to arrange this separately.
The dry season from May to October offers the best wildlife viewing in South Luangwa, as animals concentrate around the Luangwa River. Victoria Falls is at its most dramatic from February to July when water levels peak. June and July deliver an excellent overlap — the falls are still impressive and the bush safari is outstanding.
The walking safaris in South Luangwa are moderate and cover roughly 3–5 km at a gentle pace. Your guide sets the speed and adjusts to the group. The Victoria Falls tour involves walking on paved and unpaved paths. Overall, this safari suits anyone with reasonable fitness.
Absolutely. Popular extensions include the Lower Zambezi for canoe safaris, Kafue National Park for its vast wilderness and cheetah sightings, and Lake Malawi for a beach and snorkelling finish. Zamsato arranges all add-ons seamlessly.
Zamsato is a Livingstone-based safari operator with deep knowledge of Zambia's national parks, established relationships with lodges and airlines, and a commitment to small group sizes and personalised guiding. You are not booking through an aggregator — you are working directly with the team that operates your safari.
