This is a dry-season itinerary, with fixed departures running mid-April through mid-December. There are no departures during Zambia's wet season (January–March), when roads into Liuwa Plain and Kafue's remoter sections become difficult to access and the wildebeest disperse off the open plains.

Wildebeest numbers and movement patterns shift with rainfall, so exact positioning can't be guaranteed on any wildlife safari. That said, Liuwa Plain hosts Africa's second-largest wildebeest migration, and the itinerary is built around the months when large concentrations are typically present on the plains.

No — this is a common misconception. Liuwa's apex predator is the spotted hyena, not lions. The park's large, well-studied hyena clans are one of its defining wildlife features, alongside the wildebeest migration itself.

You don't need to be an athlete, but this is a mobile camping safari with early starts, long driving days between destinations, and rustic camp conditions in several locations. Comfort with basic bush camping — shared ablutions in some camps, dust, heat, and long transfer days — matters more than fitness level.

It's a mix: a few nights in comfortable lodges (including our own Kalahari Sand Ridge Inn in Livingstone), and several nights in mobile tented camps set up specifically for this itinerary. Expect genuine bush camping in the more remote sections — this isn't a lodge-to-lodge luxury trip.

It can be, but it's a demanding one to start with. The distances, remoteness, and camping conditions suit travelers who are comfortable with unpredictability and basic infrastructure. Fixed departures run with a minimum of 2 and maximum of 7 guests, so you're never sharing a vehicle with a large tour group. Solo travelers and couples are welcome to join a scheduled departure.

This itinerary stays entirely within Zambia, so you'll only need a Zambian visa (available on arrival for most nationalities, or in advance — worth checking current requirements for yours). No additional cross-border paperwork is needed for this particular route.

We'll send a full packing list once you book, but key items include neutral-colored clothing, a warm layer for early morning game drives, a headlamp, and personal medications. A sleeping bag is not included in the standard package but can be hired for USD 25 if you'd rather not bring your own.
