A normal fitness level is required. You will do some nature walks, sit longer times in the car and do canoeing.

Day 1
Livingstone - the mighty Victoria Falls

Welcome to Livingstone, Zambia. Home of the mighty Victoria Falls - one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We meet you at Livingstone's "Harry Mwanga Nkumbula" International Airport. From here we drive a short distance to our lodge. After checking in and refreshing we visit the Victoria Falls in the afternoon and walk in front of the Falls and go down in to the gorge. Don't worry. This isn't a competition but a great experience, especially seeing the only rainforest in southern Africa. Full of impressions already we are heading back to our lodge for dinner and some well deserved rest.

Day 2
Lower Zambezi Valley

Today we are leaving Livingstone and head towards the Lower Zambezi Valley.
Agriculture is an important pillar of the Zambian economy. We are passing many cattle farms and the huge sugar cane fields around Mazabuka before crossing the Munali Hills, where David Livingstone enjoyed the view over the Kafue Flats.
We are crossing the escarpment several times before decending into the Lower Zambezi Valley. In Chirundu we are reaching the Zambezi again. We are left with a few kilometers on a gravel road to our destination.

Day 3
Canoe Safari on the Zambezi River

Breakfast is at 07h30 and then you meet your canoeing guide. Your canoe guide will then give you a brief run down of the canoeing days, potentially dangerous animals, safety measures while on the river and at the campsites, and techniques on canoeing.
Departure is from our jetty to the Canoe start point.
A stop is made for tea time, which is set up by our back up boat.
We stop for lunch, which is set up by our back up boat.
We continue downriver after lunch.
Our back up boat goes on ahead to set up the campsite. In the late afternoon we stop at our campsite at Buffalo Beans on an island.

Day 4
Canoe Safari on the Zambezi River

Breakfast is enjoyed cooked over the fire.
We depart again on canoe downriver. Our back up boat follows close behind.
We stop to visit a local village on the banks of the Zambezi. Here we can visit the school, the shops and view the local way of life.
A stop is made again for tea, set up by our back up boat
Stop for lunch, set up by our back up boat and continue downriver after lunch.
Arrive at our campsite on Mutondo Island, already set up by our back up boat and overnight as above.

Day 5
Canoe Safari on the Zambezi River

Breakfast is prepared over the fire.
We depart again by canoe downriver. Our back up boat follows close behind
A stop is made again for tea, set up by our back up boat
Stop for lunch, set up by our back up boat and continue downriver after lunch.
Arrive at our campsite, already set up by our back up boat and overnight as above.

Day 6
Lusaka - the capital of Zambia

It's the last morning in the Lower Zambezi Valley. Time to pack up and head back to civilization. We use the motorboat to get back to Kiambi Lodge. We have lunch and drive to Lusaka, the capital of Zambia. About 100 years ago it was planned to accommodate 500.000 people. Nowadays it's home to almost 3 million. We will stop at one of the many malls and take stock for the next 7 days in the wilderness. For the night we are booked in a lodge on the southern outskirts of the city.

Day 7 - 8
Northern Kafue NP

After breakfast we load up and head west and enter the Kafue National Park through the Nalusanga Gate. The Kafue NP is the largest national park in Zambia. It is bigger than Slovenia. The lifeline is the Kafue River. Animals will concentrate near the remaining waterholes and along the river during the dry season. Everything can be found here except the rhino. We explore the northern part of this vast national park on game drives.

Day 9 - 10
Central Kafue NP

After 2 nights in the North we are loading up and traversing south to make camp again on the banks of the Kafue River. We are spending 2 nights here to do more game drives. An optional boat cruise is possible.

Day 11 - 12
Southern Kafue NP

We move on to the southern part of the Kafue NP. An area with mature teak forests on Kalahari sands and the Nanzhila Plains, a big open area where Lion, Cheetah, Roan, Sable antelopes can be found. This area is home to the rare endemic Black-cheeked Lovebirds / Agapornis nigrigenis.

Day 13 - 14
Livingstone

We will leave the Kafue NP and head to Livingstone, the tourism capital of Zambia. We have two nights here to have enough time to see the Victoria Falls, do Rhino tracking in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park or just to relax.

Day 15
Departure
The Lozaka Explorer ends after breakfast at our lodge. We transfer you to Livingstone's "Harry Mwanga Nkumbula" International Airport in time for your flight back home or continue to your next destination.
