Today, we go birding by the sewage ponds in Livingstone. It’s Sunday morning, cold season approaching fast. Not so easy to leave the blankets. A quick coffee, binoculars, camera and bird book and off we go. We head to the sewage ponds between Dambwa Site & Service and the Mosi-oa-Tunya NP. One of the easy to reach places for birding in Livingstone. This area is part of the Mosi-oa-Tunya NP and Batoka Gorge Important Birding Area (ZM013) and covers 8600ha in total. The ponds are partly overgrown with water hyacinth. Perfect habitat for African Purple Swamphen, Lesser and Greater Jacana, egrets, herons, lapwings and a lot more. Of cause birds are the main thing but it is definitely worth to look for insects, like butterflies and dragon flies, as well. Have a look at a few photos from this morning.
